I'm WHIT the DJ
Studio: 628.867.3212
Growing up in Queens, NY, Whit was heavily influenced by the culture that we know and love today, as hip-hop, from the music to the fashion (specifically the sneaker culture); she knew that she wanted to be involved somehow. In her household, she would often wake up on the weekends to the sounds of Hal Jackson’s Sunday Classics on the famed WBLS, playing at high volumes from her kitchen and/or living room speakers. At an early age, she found a love for music…not just what she heard coming out, but also how those sounds made her feel. “Music is the conduit between what you hear and what you feel! I love how there is a song attached to every memory that I have” Consequently our favorite songs, typically have our deepest emotions attached to them…’from joy to pain, like sunshine and rain’ (in the infamous words of Frankie Beverly and Maze).
In the mid 2000s, Whit spent 4 years in Southern VA for College and ultimately figured out how she could make her mark on the culture. Curating and hosting events, opened her ears and eyes to the power of the DJ! ’When you’re a DJ, you have the ability to control how people feel’. Though it would take almost a decade for the vision to come to fruition, this time shaped the foundation for who WHIT the DJ is today.
Whit moved to Oakland, back in January of 2012. August 2017 brought about a major life transformation, that afforded her some reflective time and led her to Fingersnaps Media Arts in SF, where she met DJ Lamont, her Mentor and Friend, ultimately changing the course of her life. She signed up to ‘Master the Mix’, birthed WHIT the DJ and today she is a Full-Time Artist, growing and thriving in the craft!
With an appreciation for an eclectic array of musical genres, her influences have grown from Classic Hip-Hop and R&B, Pop and House, into new found appreciations of Soft Rock, the creativity expressed in DC Go-Go, Jersey Club and New Orleans Bounce alike. The song that will get her on her feet, anywhere, at any time is Whitney Houston’s ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’.
“Walk’WHIT’Me on your musical journey!”
